As an IRS 501 (c)(3) free standing community-based and community-guided not-for-profit organization in the heart of Inwood, ICS has survived financially over the past 36+ years through essentially three sources of revenue:

  • Government contracts attained through rigorous RFP (Request for Proposal) processes
  • Medicaid, Medicare and insurance fees for ICS's professionally-licensed clinical services
  • The generosity of community residents and other ICS supporters

This last category of support enables ICS to enhance certain of its programs and activities and also offset the costs of what have become ICS traditions: the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Fund and the annual ICS Christmas Holiday Toy Drive.

ics-icons-ps278Funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, the COMPASS After School Program at PS 278 offers students an enriching experience that includes homework help, specialty clubs, and the STEM related activities.

The program is part of ICS’s Youth Department whose mission is to facilitate youth development through empowerment, prevention, and intervention.

In conjunction with feedback from participants and their parents, this after school program provides a varied curriculum that includes: an exploration of world cultures; a study of New York City and its landmarks; numerous creative projects including poetry, collages, journal writing, etc.; science experimentation; and a focus on personal skills needed to have a successful life. Staffed by experienced and certified child care professionals the program operates for three hours after-school each day from Monday through Friday during the school year, and 8:00 am to 6:00 pm during summer and school recesses.
