As an IRS 501 (c)(3) free standing community-based and community-guided not-for-profit organization in the heart of Inwood, ICS has survived financially over the past 36+ years through essentially three sources of revenue:

  • Government contracts attained through rigorous RFP (Request for Proposal) processes
  • Medicaid, Medicare and insurance fees for ICS's professionally-licensed clinical services
  • The generosity of community residents and other ICS supporters

This last category of support enables ICS to enhance certain of its programs and activities and also offset the costs of what have become ICS traditions: the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Fund and the annual ICS Christmas Holiday Toy Drive.

ICS Executive Director, Dr. Charles Corliss gave the opening remarks  at a Town Hall Meeting in late March welcoming the NYC’s First Lady, Chirlane I. McCray.

Along with Dr. Gary Belkin of the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, Ms. McCray was in attendance to launch the pioneering Thrive NYC mental health initiative – a comprehensive, unprecedented effort to fright the stigma of mental illness; expand mental health services in nontraditional, community based settings; and train cohorts of individuals in basic mental health ‘CPR’ .

The First Lady’s presentation was received enthusiastically by a standing room only crowd of neighborhood residents, mental health professionals, and employees of community based organizations.
