As an IRS 501 (c)(3) free standing community-based and community-guided not-for-profit organization in the heart of Inwood, ICS has survived financially over the past 36+ years through essentially three sources of revenue:

  • Government contracts attained through rigorous RFP (Request for Proposal) processes
  • Medicaid, Medicare and insurance fees for ICS's professionally-licensed clinical services
  • The generosity of community residents and other ICS supporters

This last category of support enables ICS to enhance certain of its programs and activities and also offset the costs of what have become ICS traditions: the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Fund and the annual ICS Christmas Holiday Toy Drive.

ics-icons-is278Funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, the SONYC After School Program at IS 278 offers middle school students a robust curriculum that encourages self-exploration, skills development, enhanced literacy, high school preparation, and academic achievement.

The program is part of ICS’s Youth Department whose mission is to facilitate youth development through empowerment, prevention, and intervention.

Driven by participant input, this middle school program provides homework assistance, specialty clubs, and theme oriented activities. Themes include: practical principles for successful living; youth leadership skills; selecting the best high school for you; and strategies for academic achievement. Staffed by experienced and certified youth workers, the program operates after school throughout the school year.
