COMPASS After School Program

Funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development, this COMPASS program serves adolescents between the ages of 10 to 14, who attend Washington Heights Academy.

As part of ICS’s Youth Department mission to facilitate youth development through empowerment, prevention, and intervention this program employs art not only as a vehicle to validate young people’s experiences, but also enhance growth in creative and holistic ways. This approach provides a safe space to create, think, communicate, and problem solve freely, through activities that build leadership skills and develop the self.

Aligned with the guidelines of DYCD of providing STEM, leadership, and literacy components, the program offers the following services and activities: Robotics club, Dance, Visual Arts, Young Leaders, Theater, Basketball, Volleyball and Homework Help.

The program’s staff consists of college students, graduates, and NYS licensed teachers. It operates Monday through Friday, 2:40-5:40pm, and on most holidays, 8:00am – 1:00pm
